I still don’t have the internet at home, but I’m still here and crafting up a storm.
Yesterday, I painted this:
It’s sort of like those prayer box necklaces, and yet not. See, the whole philosophy behind those necklaces is that you take this thing you’re desperately longing for and you write it down on a tiny piece of paper and keep it close to your heart (everybody say “awwwwwwwww”…) and then you’re reminded to pray for that thing all the time.
This box is the antithesis of that box. This box was made to contain many hopes and dreams and prayers of mine that are not helpful to pray for every day. Not that they aren’t good things or that I don’t want them, it’s just that they have to do with a season of life that the Lord just hasn’t brought me into yet. (Specifically regarding marriage and children.) In fact, for purity and contentment’s sake, it’s better if I just cast them off before the Lord – sort of like the message in a bottle that you cast out to sea. You hope to see it again someday, or that your star-cross’d soulmate might find it on a beach somewhere and send one back. I sealed this one shut. In placing written prayers in this box, I am essentially asking the Lord for this thing, entrusting Him with it, and refusing to let these hopes make my heart sick. It has Ecclesiastes 3:1 and lyrics from one of my favorite Sovereign Grace songs on it.
I’m still working on my bedside table. Here’s what I have so far:
I still need to put leaves on the tree and the final touches on the feathers. And although I haven’t launched my Etsy yet, Que Sera Sera Custom Knits is officially taking orders! I’ve four or five placed from work, one from an old friend, and the hope of more to come. So if you’ve seen me knit something you like and you want one — contact me! :)
